How Taylor Swift’s Path to Stardom Began in Probate Court

Taylor Swift is all over the headlines right now with her recent engagement, but did you know her path to stardom began in probate court??

Here’s why:

If you’re under 18, you can’t legally sign a contract on your own. That includes record deals. To protect young artists, the probate court steps in through a process called emancipation.

It doesn’t mean parents lose their rights. It simply gives minors permission to enter into enforceable

contracts. Judges and lawyers review the deal to make sure it’s fair.

That’s how a teenage Taylor Swift was able to get her first record deal in Nashville. 🎵
